The Association Malaysians in Western Australia Inc. (AMWA)
Dear Fellow Malaysians and Friends
Selamat Datang
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Association of Malaysians in WA (Inc), also known as "AMWA". AMWA came into existence on 3 October 2005. Since then, it has maintained its strong presence in the community through numerous events such as the Merdeka Ball, the Merdeka Golf Tournament, business networking sessions and the communal celebrations of major festivals such as Chinese New Year , Hari Raya , Deepavali and Christmas...
AMWA serves a vital function in Western Australia today, due to the dynamic and ever growing relationship between this state and Malaysia. According to the 2006 census, there were approximately 20,000 Malaysian born people living in Western Australia. At present, Western Australia is gaining economic prominence in Malaysia, as a viable export partner, with trade of approximately 2 billion dollars per annum. Further, Malaysia is the third largest market for student enrolment in Western Australia, contributing significantly to our local economy. Finally, Western Australia is the fifth most popular tourist destination for Malaysians.
In light of the above statistics, it is no doubt clear that there are significant ties between Malaysia and Western Australia. To date, AMWA has nutured and assisted in the development of this relationship, by not only promoting Malaysian culture within the local community but also providing support to Malaysians within the local community. AMWA hopes to continue its valuable work, which can only be done with your support.
We look forward to welcoming many new members in the new year and hope to move from strength to strength, in the next chapter of AMWA's promising future.
Regards
Rasa Subramaniam OAM, JP
